Numedia to perform at Mawazine festival

Numedia is going to perform a live concert in Mawazine Festival at the stage of Salé (Morocco) on the 27^rd of May, 2013. This concert is programmed in Mawazine festival in its 12^th edition. Moha Mellal & Izenzaren are also going to perform in the same festival.

Founded in 1994, Numedia is a music group from Al Hoceima perpetuating traditions, identity and Amazigh culture. Since 2002, the band has participated in many festivals in Morocco and abroad. The aim of Numedia is promoting the Amazigh directory worldwide.

Libya Ibraren, a new Amazigh TV in Libya

Having a satellite TV in Tamazight as a language of broadcasting in Libya was a dream hard to be achieved. However, the wind of change has made it possible with the sweeping away of the Kaddafi regime that put a total control on the Media and didn’t recognize the right of Imazighen in having their own channel.

On January the 13^th, 2013 a new Amazigh channel came into existence. It was named “LIBYA IBRAREN’’. Since its launch Libya IBRAREN has made a full use of Tamazight in its programs.

The most remarkable work of this channel was broadcasting live from Paris the International Conference on Libya in Tamazight.

For the interested audience all that they can do is turning their satellite receivers to the following frequency: Nile Sat (H 11525).

Soleiman is a fisherman in an isolated island in northern Morocco (Al Hoceima). He lives with his wife, Aisha, and his son, Ismael who is sick with cancer. Soleiman and Aicha are in love and form a happy family… until one day Eva appears, and is captivated by Soleiman. Overtaken by jealousy Eric puts an end to their romantic vacations, leaving Eva behind and taking with him her passport and the rest of her possessions Now, more than ever, Eva will need Soleiman´s presence. Gradually, Soleiman falls in love with Eva, disengages from his wife and starts drifting away from his son who is about to die. Aisha is unsettled and concerned by Eva´s sudden and unjustified presence, causing marital conflicts with Soleiman. Despite this, Aisha makes an effort to keep her marriage alive for the sake of her son, who needs his father at this critical point in his life. Its a dramatic story of jealousy, love and deceits that only lead to hell.

Director’s notes

SOLEI-MAN plays with the psychological traumas that love and death induce in the mind of a devoted mother and wife. The story develops in an isolated home, far away from any hospital or any urban life. Its a film where images predominate over dialogues as means of expression. A great number of medium shots and close-up are used in order to observe and focus on the characters’ reactions under extreme circumstances. It is a story that not unintentionally makes you think and draw your own conclusions and considerations over the subjects of love, death and all the other ingredients life is made of.

LOVE

We talk about two kinds of love: The love of a mother for her child, unconditional, powerful and strong, capable of surpassing any obstacle in its way. And another kind of love; the possessive love of Soleiman and Eva, that can only bring jealousy and conflict.

DEATH

The mother expresses what she feels towards her youngest son who is dying of cancer and the anguish of not being able to do anything about it. There are moments that show conflict and suffering just as the mother is living it.

COURAGE

The child not only brings the subject of cancer but also that of courage. He is able to enjoy his favorite chocolate cake, prepared by his mother, amongst terrible pains and concerns over death. He teaches us that the only way to fight death is to accept it… and the fear fades away. COOKING All Mediterranean countries have something in common; our love for food and cooking. We believe that eating healthy and delicious food can prevent and defeat any illness, diminish conflicts and encourage.

Khalid Izri in concert in Tripoli, Libya

For the first time after the fall of Kaddafi, the capital of Libya, Tripoli is going to host a mega concert celebrating the Amazigh new Year 2963 in Tripoli Stadium on the 12th of January 2013. The concert is featuring Khalid Izri, Takfarinas, Danya Ben Sasi, and others.

An international conference is also organized during the same event. During this conference, the Amazigh World Congress will ask the formalization of the Amazigh language in the Libyan Constitution as alongside Arabic language. Besides the participation of Amazigh World Congress (CMA), and a large number of activists of the Amazigh movement in Libya, will participate in this international conference of representatives of several international organizations and agencies, representatives of the Libyan government, members of Libyan national Congress, representatives of diplomatic missions in Libya and many Amazigh movement activists from Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco and the Sahel as well as representatives from more than 40 countries.

Set within the rugged mountains of Algeria, this metaphysical drama, filmed entirely in the Amazigh language, follows the vengeful quest of an Amazigh patriarch out to find the young man who impregnated his daughter. Adding insult to the father’s injury is the fact that he saved the young man from freezing to death on a high mountain slope. While the obsessed father braves rugged unforgiving hillsides and wanders into assorted villages and bandit camps, the story jumps to scenes of the daughter and her lover who have secretly reunited to share their growing love. Unfortunately, the story comes full circle when the father finally catches up to his daughter’s lover in a snow-covered forest.

RIFANA album release party by UNISCO Club

RIFANA album relase party

In November the second, the UNISCO Club for the Protection of the Rifian Heritage has organized the party of signing the first album of the emerging band RIFANA. The new album is entitles “Texseghcem” (I Love You). This has happened in the presence of many artists and poets.

The president of the previously mentioned club has said that the party is organized in the honor of RIFANA as its songs meet up with the goals of the club. Also, he said that it has done a lot of efforts to develop this immaterial heritage that globalization is swiping away.

Additionally, the artist Allal Chileh considered the launching of the new album came in a time where the Rifian Music is witnessing a terrible silence and it will push it forward. Besides this, he pointed out that it is hard to give critics to the Album in general as every song needs to be given a particular consideration.

In the same way, the poet Mohamed Awik has considered the album as a lifeline to the Rifian music and it came in a period where serious songs have disappeared and exchanged with wedding songs.

Likewise, the artist Farid EL HAMDAOUI has pointed out that the band depended on its own resources to make this album that aims to allow the Rifians to rediscover their own heritage in order to protect it from disappearance.

Amazigh Studies Day in Mexico

The National School of Anthropology and History in the city of Mexico has announced that it will organize its second congress this year under the theme of “Language, literature, Resistance and the Social Movement of People of North Africa: the Resistance and the Identity of the population of North Africa and Others”. The last year edition was a major success as that it has attracted many participants.

Ouajd Karkar, a Rifian from Igzennayen in the Central Rif of Morocco, is the professor who initiated this event to promote the Amazigh culture in this part of the world. He teaches Tarifit to many students and teachers, who showed much interest in this culture. That is why Mr. Ouajd and his wife Azul Ramírez were encouraged to prepare a course specializing in North African Anthropology.

Thanks to these professors, the people of Mexico are now aware about the fact that the indigenous of North Africa are Imazighen. The mission of the “Jornada de Estudios Amazigh” is to contribute to the recognition of the cultural and identity rights of Imazighen from all regions of the continent.

The program of this event is rich and varied. It will contain documentaries, music shows, and conferences. The full program is going to be announced later by the organizing committee.
